Our Method

Low-Moisture Bonnet Cleaning

Our low-moisture bonnet cleaning process involves four key steps. (1) Pre-Vacuuming — the area is thoroughly vacuumed to remove dry soil, dust and loose debris before any moisture is applied. (2) Pre-Spraying — a cleaning solution is lightly applied to the carpet fibres to loosen dirt, oils and stains. (3) Spin Bonneting — a rotary machine works a cleaning pad (the “bonnet”) across the carpet pile. The pad is dampened with a mildly acidic rinse that neutralises alkaline cleaning residue and resets your carpet to a balanced pH, so it doesn’t feel sticky or re-soil quickly. (4) Pad Changing — pads are changed as they load up with soil, so a clean pad is always in contact with the carpet. Because the backing and underlay stay dry, there’s no soggy underlay, musty odours or stains wicking back up.

When Needed

Hot Water Extraction (“Steam Cleaning”)

Hot water extraction and “steam cleaning” are the same method — no steam is actually used. By the time the heated solution has travelled through the long hoses of truck-mounted equipment, it is very hot water, not steam, and the vapour seen at the wand is often mistaken for steam. The solution is sprayed into the carpet under pressure and vacuumed back out, but some water soaks past the pile into the backing and underlay, which can mean long drying times. We keep portable commercial extraction machines for the occasional carpet with a heavy build-up of soiling that needs flushing, and we’ll recommend it only when your carpet genuinely needs it.

Add-On

Stain Treatment

All stains are assessed prior to treatment. Stain removal is always a chemical process, so a stain can only be treated if it can be chemically reversed — and not all stains can. Red wine, coffee and many other substances can cause permanent colour change to carpet fibres. The type of stain, the carpet fibre and dye, how long the stain has been there, and any earlier cleaning attempts, whether with household products or by another cleaner, all affect what can be achieved. Urine stains cannot be removed. Urine can soak through to the backing and underlay, and where contamination has reached the underlay or subfloor, cleaning cannot remove it, and the carpet may not be restorable by cleaning alone. Our technician will advise honestly on what is achievable before any treatment begins.

Protection

Fabric Protector

An optional post-clean application that creates an invisible barrier in carpet fibres, making future spills easier to clean and slowing re-soiling.

Add-On

Deodorising

Professional-grade deodorisers neutralise odours at the source — ideal for pet odours, musty smells or rental properties.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you service Burnie? +

Yes — we service Burnie and all of North-West Tasmania. A travel charge may apply depending on distance from Devonport. Contact us for a free written quote including travel.

How long will my carpets take to dry? +

Our standard low-moisture method dries much more quickly than hot water extraction, which can take many hours depending on ventilation and temperature. Drying time is always dependent on air flow and temperature, regardless of method. For end of lease cleans, the tenant and carpet cleaner have no ability to assist the drying process once the property has been vacated — any intervention required to aid drying will need to come from the property manager or owner. We recommend keeping foot traffic low until carpets are fully dry.

Do you do steam cleaning? +

“Steam cleaning” is a common name for hot water extraction, but no steam is actually involved — it’s very hot water sprayed into the carpet and vacuumed back out. Our standard method is low-moisture bonnet cleaning, which cleans the carpet pile where the dirt sits without soaking the backing and underlay, so your carpets dry much faster. We do have portable extraction equipment for carpets with a heavy build-up of soiling that needs flushing, and we’ll assess this on-site. Whichever method is used, stain removal relies on the right chemical treatment for the type of stain.

Can you remove pet stains and odours? +

Unfortunately, pet urine stains cannot be removed, and urine in carpet is one of the few problems that cannot be reliably fixed by cleaning alone. Urine contains uric acid, which forms crystals deep in carpet fibres, backing and underlay. These crystals are largely insoluble — they sit dormant when dry but reactivate when moisture is present, which is why the smell often returns after cleaning or on humid days. The affected area in the underlay can be up to three times larger than the visible surface stain. In severe cases, urine penetrates through to the subfloor, at which point no amount of carpet cleaning will eliminate the odour. This article explains the chemistry in detail. Before any work is carried out, we use a hydro probe to check for moisture or salts, which may indicate contamination such as pet urine, although the source cannot be confirmed by testing alone, and provide an honest assessment of what cleaning can and cannot achieve. In the worst cases, the carpet may not be restorable by cleaning alone. Pet hair worked deep into the fibres can also rise to the surface during cleaning, and odours may be more noticeable straight afterwards — see what to expect with pet hair, urine and odours.

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Burnie? +

The method of costing is straightforward — a quote is provided at the time of first contact via email or SMS, depending on your preferred method of communication. The final cost is determined on the day and depends on the total area of carpet to be cleaned and the level of soiling. Each carpeted room is accurately measured with a laser measure — and if furniture remains in place and is not being moved, the carpet beneath it is not included in the measurement or the cost. How often should I have my carpets cleaned? +

Every 12–18 months for most households. More frequently with pets, young children or allergy sufferers.
